Dear Izzy's parents

Almost 19 years ago, you brought home a little baby girl to love. She was suppose to be mine but my family wanted otherwise. For some reason, I feel like you don't like me and wish that I would go away. I know that you love Izzy as much as I do. I know that you did what you felt was right for you and that was getting a baby. I try not to hold that against you. From what I can tell. You did a very good job raising Izzy. She is beautiful and smart. I am so proud of her. I hope you don't mind sharing her a little. I really hope that someday, we can meet again. I am not agaisnt you. We both want the same thing. We want Izzy to be loved, happy and lead a good life.

i'll be praying that God gives you peace at this time of year. your feelings are totally valid, though i'd imagine theirs are as well, and it's probably VERY scary for them to let you back in. not that that's any excuse to treat you with anything less than the respect you so deserve for bringing both of your daughter into the world! having both adoptive parents in my family & a birthmother as a close friend, i've seen BOTH sides up front, and usually the adoptive parents are the really insecure ones when reunion comes because they KNOW there is a bond that they can never have... just as they & the child have a bond the biological parent can't have. the good news is, if EVERYONE really works at understanding WHY the others feel & act as they do, it can often lead to a VERY fulfilling relationship for all involved. i'll be praying you have the strength & wisdom needed to navigate this most delicate & special of relationships... keep us posted & hang in there! :-)

Thinking of you. I hope that you get to meet again someday, too.

I hope that God works on their hearts for the sake of Izzy. You are a very kind birthmother. :)

I am so glad I saw your comment today so I could meet you. As someone who works with many teenage girls I truly appreciate this perspective.

Last year I had seven teenagers give birth. None of them even considered adoption. The girls aged in range 13 to 16. I don't work with them any longer but each day I think of those little girls and their little babies and I pray they are safe and happy.
